Recycling on Campus

Welcome back to MSU! The semester is in full swing and our recycling program is going strong. We are continuing to add new locations and to replace existing containers with those more in line with the University standard for recycling containers. Thank you all for helping to make our recycling program such a huge success!

I wanted to talk briefly about materials that can and cannot be recycled in our recycling containers on campus.

Acceptable items in the co-mingle bins include aluminum, steel and tin cans as well as plastic containers.  We cannot recycle glass, Styrofoam or plastic bags. The company handling our recycling does not want plastic lids from bottles but metal lids are okay.

Please empty and rinse your drink containers before placing them into the recycling bins. Liquids create messes and attract insects in warmer months.

The paper bins can accept most kinds of paper, including white paper, colored paper, envelopes, catalogs and newspapers. Please do not put cardboard into the paper bins.

Do not put used napkins or tissues or other food-contaminated papers into the bins.

Please note that we cannot accept items from home. I understand that you are interested in recycling, but we do not have the ability to accept extra material from off campus.

If you have any questions about recycling, please email us at Sustainability@MissouriState.edu.

Thank you!
