Water Ski Team Qualifies for Division I Nationals

This past weekend the Missouri State University Water Ski Team competed in the Midwest Regional Championships in Decatur, IL and took home 3rd place! The third place finish qualifies them for Division I Nationals. The team will be traveling to Austin, TX Oct 14-16 to compete in event held by the National Collegiate Water Ski Association and Texas State University. This is the third time the Bears will be making the trip to Nationals, the first time in 2007 in DI and the second time in 2008 in Division II.

The women’s team took 1st place slalom, jump, and 2nd place tricks both at Regionals and at the Conference Championships. Women who made a podum in individual events include Jordan Dutro—3rd in slalom, 3rd in jump, 4th place overall; Stephanie Elhoffer- tied for 4th in tricks, tied for 2nd overall; Justine Vaughan- tied for 4th in tricks, 5th place overall. In the men’s event Paul Tierney place 4th in slalom.

There are currently 110 colleges and universities in the US with competitive waterski teams that make up the National Collegiate Waterski Association memership. The top 22 qualify each year for the National Competition.

MSU is one of 43 teams in the Midwest Region. The fall tournament season has been in full swing as the teams vie for the chance to compete at the Midwest Regional Championships in Decatur, IL Oct 1-3, 2010. Conference tournaments in the region over the past weeks determined the top 16 teams to compete at the Regional level. The Top 3 winners from Regionals go on to compete in the Division I Nationals. Wisconsin Madison took top honors, Purdue University 2nd and Missouri State snatched the 3rd spot ahead of Ohio State and University of Cinncinati. Those 4th and 5th place teams will compete in Division II along with Iowa State.

Missouri State Places Second in SIU Fall Classic

This past weekend the Missouri State Bears traveled to Du Quoin, Illinois to compete in SIU’s first annual Fall Classic. With some fantastic skiing by all the Bears, Missouri State placed second only 25 points behind the winner Purdue.

Not only did the team take home second but many from the team received individual medals as well.

For the men:

Paul Tierney- 2nd place slalom; 3rd place jump; 4th place overall

Women:

Jordan Dutro- 2nd slalom; 2nd jump; 2nd overall

Stephanie Elhoffer- 3rd slalom; 5th trick; 4th overall

Justine Vaughan- 5th slalom; 3rd trick; 4th jump; 1st overall

This weekend MSU will be traveling to Wilmington, IL to compete in the Great Plains Conference Championships. This tournament will determine who will be moving on from the Great Plains Conference onto the Midwest Regional Championships. Missouri State Wins Fall Showdown

With the scores of the 2010 Fall Showdown in the books Missouri State’s season is officially underway. This past weekend was the 6th annual Mo State Fall Showdown and if you missed it you certainly missed out! There was some amazing skiing done by all especially by our own bears.

Missouri State Fall Showdown

This weekend (9/11-9/12) the Missouri State Waterski Team will be hosting and competing in the annual Fall Showdown. This is a NCWSA (National Collegiate Water Ski Association) sanctioned collegiate tournament that schools from around the region will be competing in as well. This event is open to all spectators who would like to cheer on the Water Skiing Bears of Missouri State or just come and watch some awesome skiing.

Skiing starts at 8 am both Saturday and Sunday with a shrimp boil dinner on Saturday evening.  Below is some more to the point info but please come and enjoy the tournament!

Where: Lake Freddie, Hartville, MO

Theme:  NASCAR: Pit Girls & Grease Monkeys.  Basically, white trash.

Meals: Concessions on site for breakfast and lunch on Saturday. The delicious shrimp boil will be for dinner on Saturday night. Skier’s dinner will be $7 & non-skiers will be charged $10. Whatever is left over from Saturday concessions will be sold on Sunday.

Activities: Bring your water volleyball game!

Directions to the Lake:  2 miles north of Hartville on Hwy 5. Turn right on lake Freddie Road. Follow Signs. OR Hwy-44 exit Hwy-5 south (Lebanon / Hartville Exit). Turn left on lake Freddie Road. Follow Signs.  If lost, call Paul’s phone!

Order of events:

Saturday: Men Slalom, Women Slalom, Men & Women Trick simultaneously. Men start on far start dock, women start on main start dock, Women Jump, Men Jump.  We plan to pull B team on Sunday.

Camping:   Camping on site as usual. Camping will take place on the southside of the stream / parking on the northside.  Please follow the signs. If needed: Little House Inn Mansfield MO. Approx 11 miles from site. Phone 417-924-3531

Site Rules:

1.     Absolutely no one in the water after dark

2.     Camping in designated area only

3.     No glass on site- no exceptions

4.     Dogs must be on leashes. Be responsible for them!
