My Autism Journey day 9-It was easiest when Paige didn’t want to be in her room and would quiet down. Soon enough when she went into her room she didn’t want to come out. I described it by saying she turned her room into Worlds of Fun. I opened the door just a crack to see what was happening. She turned her mattress sideways on the box spring and made a slide out of it. I saw her climb to the top of her dresser and jump. She “hang glided” over to the mattress and dropped. Now what?!!! Obviously, I had to call Dr. Richman’s hotline number he gave me. He told me to remove everything from her room but the top mattress. I couldn’t do it myself and this was during the day. When Brad got home we moved her furniture. It looked like a prison cell. Once she saw that her playground was gone it wasn’t as much fun to go to her room. We slowly saw things improve. I really was unable to do anything else but work on behavior. Seeing the gradual improvement made me cautiously optimistic. We were fighting for our girl.
