My Autism Journey Day 12-As we got closer to the much-anticipated developmental medicine appointment at KU, I couldn’t help but wonder how this had all happened. We had a HUGE packet of forms and questionnaires to complete prior to the KU appointment. I worked on it every evening for at least an hour. It is interesting to note that when we went to regular pediatrician appointments they never saw any red flags. Paige was meeting all of her developmental milestones. The problem was that she lost skills rather quickly. I still have some residual guilt wondering if having such a hectic world prevented me from seeing things sooner. We all just do our best in the moment. I try to remember this now. There are so many factors that are at work in every family. For ours, my father had become sick and was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. One of the biggest blessings we had was that both sets of grandparents lived in town and were so helpful to us with moral support and every other kind of support we needed. Our hearts were heavy with the thought of losing him.
