My Autism Journey Day 16- Paige has always loved water! I used to say if there was a puddle of water in the street and a semi-truck was coming she would still go for the water. Our summer vacations mostly were trips to the beach. She spent many days trying to put all of the seaweed back into the ocean. The older kids asked if we could take a non-beach vacation. I was baffled!!! Who wouldn’t want to be on a beach?!!! We decided to go to St Louis. We planned some touristy things like the Arch, Grant’s Farm, the zoo, and Six Flags which had a water park in it. There were many rough patches on this trip. At that point in time, Paige was only taking baths, so when we had a hotel that just had a shower she wasn’t having it. We were learning that no matter how much planning we did in advance, there were always things that popped up that caused problems. We did Grant’s Farm and Paige threw a fit because she didn’t want to ride the tram. Things that were more regimented were hard for her. The only thing that she enjoyed that day was feeding the baby goats. There was a lot of biting that day. We decided that I would stay at the hotel with Paige while Brad took the big kids for things that she wouldn’t enjoy. This was a better plan! Paige loved the zoo and the water park. I guess this was the beginning of doing things differently than anyone I knew.
