Dr. Adam McGee is an assistant professor within the animal science department at the Darr College of Agriculture. McGee teaches animal science students the principles of beef cattle production and the proper management of cow-calf, feedlot, and stocker herds.
McGee completed his associate degree at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in 2005. Three years later, he received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education at Kansas State University. He then received his master’s degree in ruminant nutrition at the University of Nebraska in 2013. McGee concluded his education by graduating from Oklahoma State University, receiving his Ph.D. in ruminant nutrition.
McGee has taught for five years in total, beginning his teaching career at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. When he heard about the open position at Missouri State University, he moved his family to the Show Me State because of the facilities and research opportunities the university offered.
“The Darr College of Agriculture is located in a very unique location in the heart of cow-calf country,” McGee said. “It has small class sizes which allow for a better connection with students, and we have amazing facilities that even larger universities do not have.”
In Fall 2022, McGee will teach Animal Nutrition, Animal Breeding, Cow-Calf Production, Stocker and Feedlot Production, Introduction to the Beef Cattle Industry, Advanced Animal Nutrition, and Dairy and Meat Animal Evaluation. He also supervises animal science graduate students as they conduct their research and thesis in their respective studies. McGee also serves as the advisor for the College of Agriculture Block and Bridle Club.
McGee’s favorite College of Agriculture event is the Journagan Ranch Sale because it brings cattlemen and cattlewomen together to support the hard work students put into the cattle year-round.
“It is so much fun to see all the cattle come in and to be able to see the pastures full of cattle,” McGee said.
When not researching cattle breeding or management, McGee can be found either in the classroom, managing the Journagan Ranch show cattle, or working with the cow-calf teaching herd at Shealy Farm.
