Graduating in just three years while balancing leadership and academics is a huge achievement.
For Missouri State University hospitality leadership senior Zoey Norris, this accomplishment reflects her dedication and passion for building a future in the hospitality industry.
Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Norris started studying at Missouri State in fall 2023 as a sophomore. She chose to become a Bear because the degree program she wanted had a strong reputation and the university was close to home.
Norris chose to major in hospitality leadership after a job shadowing experience at a hotel in high school.
“I really liked being in an environment where I could interact with people, and I was excited by how each day was different,” she said.
A supportive environment
As she gets closer to graduation day this May, Norris expresses gratitude for the student-focused environment in the Darr College of Agriculture.

“I’ve had several advisors during my time here, and each has been attentive and supportive,” she said. “Having someone to turn to when I have questions or need guidance has been incredibly helpful.”
Norris credits the college with preparing her to enter the workforce through networking opportunities. For example, attending conferences like IMEX America, a global hospitality and tourism convention in Las Vegas in October 2025.
“They provided hands-on industry experience and helped me build valuable professional connections for my future career,” she said.
Thriving as a Bear
During her time at Missouri State, Norris has been actively involved in student organizations, hospitality management societies and community service projects. She also served as president of Eta Sigma Delta, an international honor society for hospitality and tourism students.
“I joined Eta Sigma Delta to connect with other hospitality students and grow professionally,” she said.
As president, Norris planned events, coordinated meetings and led service projects. This semester, the society volunteered at The Fairbanks community dinner, where members helped set up, serve meals and engaged with community members and families in Springfield. Other initiatives include hosting donation drives for the Bear Pantry on campus.
Find your people
As Norris prepares for life after graduation, she aims to work in an assistant manager or coordinator role for events or guest services at a hotel.
Her main advice for current and future Missouri State students is to build connections early.
“I’d say find people with similar goals and interests. Having that kind of support and shared motivation can make all the difference,” she said.
