My name is Danni Hammontree and I’m from Liberty Missouri, just outside of Kansas City. I am a junior agricultural communications major with a minor in photography and marketing. I may have grown up in the city, but my family farm always had my heart. I have always loved being in the country and had a huge interest in agriculture. I love photographing outdoors and wildlife in my free time as well as spending time with friends and family.
My name is Monica Gevers. I’m a sophomore at Missouri State University. I’m an animal science and spanish double major. However, overall I love to study physiology. I’ve had an fascination with animals since my childhood, but as an adult I’ve learned to appreciate the complexity of the inner working of their various body systems. Further goals for myself is to attend i College of Veterinary Medicine after I graduate from Missouri State University.
My hobbies include gymnastics (although I mostly teach now), horseback riding, painting and learning about physiology and embryonic development. I found myself interested in the beef forage project as I realized I had no experience with cattle. Although cattle don’t intimidate me with their size, they are entirely different from horses in their behavior, intelligence and train-ability. I took this project on in an attempt to get comfortable with cattle and general farm practices since I intend to become a mixed-practice veterinarian.
My name is Riley Phipps. I’m from Lamar, Missouri, about 50 miles north of Joplin. I am a senior agricultural communications major with a minor in animal science. Along with college, this internship, and my other hobbies, my life is very busy. In July 2017, God granted me with a handsome son named Russell. I grew up in a busy household and it has carried on into my adulthood. Having a baby hasn’t slowed me down at all, if anything it has increased my drive. After my undergrad, I plan to either move on to graduate college or pursue a career in the beef industry.
I took on this internship because I’m very interested in beef nutrition. Through this internship I hope to learn more about forage management and rotational grazing, so that I could then apply my new knowledge on my own cattle operation.
Hi all, my name is Rachel Kohne and I am a third year student here at MSU. I am pursuing majors in animal science and natural resources, with minors in companion animals and agronomy. I am originally form Jonesburg, Missouri, where I grew up on a small family farm. This lead to a passion early on for agriculture, which was further enforced by my participation in my local FFA chapter and my job at a veterinary clinic. I am super excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this research. I hope this experience will help me decide whether graduate college is a potential for my future. I can’t wait to see what this spring and summer holds!
