2016 is the fourth year running that the symposium has been hosted at the Springfield Art Museum, thanks to the Director Nick Nelson and the special relationship that has been fostered between our institutions. The museum offers many wonderful opportunities for our students – not only as an excellent resource, but through internship placements, and even as a place of employment for our talented alumni.
Our first symposium was held in 2006, at the suggestion of then department head Andrew Cohen, celebrating the first year of the Bachelors in Art History program at Missouri State. Since 2006, Dr. Catherine Jolivette (MSU) and Dr. Tom Russo (Drury) have served as coordinators for this event. This annual spring semester symposium invites advanced art history students selected from Missouri State and Drury University to give 15-20 minute presentations on their research. The art history faculty members select the student speakers from a group of competitive proposals, and the faculty then guide the students in developing their oral presentations for the symposium.
The Eleventh Annual Missouri State University/ Drury University Art History Symposium took place last Thursday evening, April 7, at the Springfield Art Museum, 1111 E Brookside Dr, Springfield, MO 65807.
