May 21-22, in Glass Hall 486, Missouri State faculty, staff, and student reviewers will gather to discuss and assess student learning in Natural World general education courses. In 2019, the workshop will be focused on student learning in relation to General Goal 10: Life Sciences and General Goal 11: Physical Sciences. Faculty, staff, and students will have the opportunity to network and share ideas with colleagues across campus.
We are changing the format up a bit this year. We are aiming for 1.5 days vs. 3 days in the past.
I would like to participate
We are looking for 40 participants, including students, per course faculty, and faculty of different ranks. We invite any general education faculty to attend, but priority will be given to faculty who teach a course in the Natural World section of General Education, CGEIP members, and Assessment Council Members.
For Faculty:
- A $500 stipend for all faculty reviewers with the potential for an additional $250 stipend for 3 & 6-month follow up.
- Lunch and refreshments
- A Certificate of University Citizenship (Faculty Handbook 4.2.3.2)
What we ask of reviewers:
- Bring an assignment that you’d like feedback from your colleagues on.
- Bring some samples of student work that we can review using the faculty-developed rubrics.
- A student—we want students to be more involved in the conversations around general education. If you have a student in mind, please let us know.
- Bring an open-mind—we’re not there to judge you or your course, we’re there to have an open dialog and improve student learning.
