When I first came to Missouri State University in the fall of 2016 I had declared my major as marketing not really knowing what that entailed. After my first semester, I had started to hear about this other major, public relations, that I had known nothing about. I did my research and decided this was the major for me.
Fast forward to the last semester of my sophomore year, I was finally going to be in a class that pertained to my major: COM 309, principles of public relations. Jerri Lynn Kyle taught this class and quickly became my favorite instructor. She discussed all the possibilities of a public relations career and I became hooked.
Toward the end of the course, my now supervisor, Kevin Agee, came to speak to our class about his job at Missouri State’s web strategy and development division. Kevin mentioned internship possibilities on their team so I decided to email him about it almost a year later.
Now, here I am a member on this team and could not be happier.
My love affair with social media
Social media has always been fascinating to me. I love the idea that people can express themselves and show their personality through the use of apps on their phones.
My love affair for social media started in grade school when I downloaded my first app, Facebook. Now, I have too many accounts to name off and frequent on the sites daily.
I have always been that girl that makes her friends or family stop so she can take a picture of her surroundings to later post online. Keeping up with the new social media trends always remained a priority for me.
Coming into college I thought my interest in social media would always remain a hobby. After changing my major to public relations, I quickly realized that it is a tool that many businesses use.
What comes next?
As an intern I look forward to posting on Missouri State’s Instagram account and blogging periodically also.
I have a deep love for this school and its values. I aspire to create content that will make others feel the same way.
As for right now I am thrilled that I will be able to put one of my favorite hobbies to good use.
