Missouri State University is taking another step to make higher education more attainable for incoming freshmen.

Incoming freshmen for the fall 2021 semester who have a GPA of at least 3.7 will automatically receive a scholarship worth up to $2,000 per year, regardless of whether they submit an ACT or SAT score. The existing scholarship program for students who provide an ACT or SAT score remains in place.

Amounts and qualifications

Qualified students who apply for admission by Feb. 1, 2021 will automatically receive these GPA-only scholarships. Students who apply after Feb. 1 may be considered on an individual basis if funding is available.

“This is an extension of Missouri State’s test-optional admissions policy,” said Dr. Rob Hornberger, vice president for enrollment management and services. “We want to do everything we can to ensure access and equity to all students in our admission and scholarship programs.”

These new test-optional scholarships are:

  • Academic Excellence – $2,000 per year (high school GPA of at least 3.9).
  • Academic Distinction – $1,500 per year (high school GPA of 3.8-3.89).
  • Academic Achievement – $1,000 per year (high school GPA of 3.7-3.79).

Students must be attending college for the first time and apply for admission by Feb 1, 2021 to receive a scholarship for the fall 2021 semester. Already-admitted and qualified students will also receive a scholarship.

Each is renewable for three additional years, for a total of four years, and can be combined with the Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leaders and Missouri State Advantage scholarships.
