Whether job interviews excite you or terrify you, the best way to prepare for one is by practicing. Of course, you should never use an actual interview only for practice. In addition to being unethical, that would waste the employer’s time and money.
So how can you develop and practice your interview skills? Sign up for Mock Interview Day!
Friday, April 6, 2018
PSU Ballroom West (3rd Floor)
9:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Registration deadline: April 2, 2018 (or until space is filled)
This event is free, but registration is required.
Wondering if you should participate in Mock Interview Day? Here are four reasons to say yes:
1.) Mock Interview Day is FREE for students and alumni.
All you need to do is register through the Career Center’s JobTracks. Upload an updated résumé. Once you have a résumé on JobTracks, you can sign up for an interview time that best fits your schedule. If you register early, you will have more options in selecting the recruiter who will interview you. Following are the employers who are volunteering:
Aflac
ALDI, Inc
Jack Henry & Associates
Lowe’s Home Improvement
Missouri State Highway Patrol
Northwestern Mutual Financial Network
O’Reilly Auto Parts
Pfizer Pharmaceuticals
Springfield Police Department
The Arc of the Ozarks
Verizon Wireless
2.) Recruiters will interview you and give you immediate feedback.
You won’t be left wondering “Should I have said that?”, “How should I have answered that question?”, “I never know what to say when employers ask me about my weakness”, or any other concern. At Mock Interview Day, you have an employer volunteering time to practice with you, give you feedback, and answer any questions you might have about interviews.
3.) Mock Interview Day is a type of “dress rehearsal” for job interviews.
Get the recruiter’s opinion and tips on your interview attire, your handshake, and body language. Think of Mock Interview Day as your dress rehearsal for actual interviews. If you wonder if the color of your shirt is too obnoxious, ask the recruiter for opinions. Be sure to ask them how they feel about your handshake and if they noticed any nervous behaviors.
4.) Get quick feedback on your résumé.
If time allows, the interviewer may be able to give you feedback on your résumé. If they notice something on a résumé that could be problematic, interviewers are generous in providing suggestions. If you have a quick question about your résumé, go ahead and ask. Remember, though, that you can get more detailed help from the Career Center’s walk-in hours or appointment with a Career Resources Specialist.
Space is limited, so sign up as soon as possible. The deadline for registering is Monday, April 2—or until space is filled. For more information and to register for a mock interview time, visit the Career Center’s website: http://careercenter.missouristate.edu/MockInterviewDay.htm
