The Magers Health and Wellness Center’s Student Wellness Program offers many opportunities for students to engage in health and wellness activities on campus. Student Wellness cultivates student learning and influences health-related outcomes by promoting healthy attitudes and behaviors, preventing illness, injury, and disease, thereby shaping a healthier campus community. Student Wellness also strives to prevent and reduce preventable health risks and illnesses that interfere with academic performance, learning, student retention and personal growth opportunities.
A great way for students to stay healthy is to get involved with various wellness activities on campus. Each month, student wellness sends out an email with upcoming wellness activities and events. Here are some upcoming wellness events that your student can participate in towards the end of this semester:
- Chair Yoga, every Monday from 12:10-1pm in the Magers Health and Wellness Center. Chair Yoga is a great way to release tension in the shoulders and entire body and increase overall flexibility and relaxation (without needing to change into yoga wear).
- Wellness Wednesdays, every Wednesday there is an information table in the PSU that has information and activities for students.
- Self Care for a Bear, every Wednesday at 5pm in Magers Health and Wellness Center:
- 11/14: Tobacco Cessation
- 11/28: Diabetes
- 12/5: Nutrition and Final Exams
- 12/12: Stress Relief
- Active Shooter Training is available on November 28.
- SoBEAR Party (December 6). Missouri State University’s Collegiate Recovery Program will host an evening of free bowling and snacks to help students relieve stress and anxiety before finals. This free event will take place at PSU Level One from 6-8pm.
- Massage on Study Day (December 7). Students can stop by the Magers Health and Wellness Center for a free chair massage to help them relax and get ready for finals on 12/7 from 11am-3pm.
- Free Flu Shots and the third Annual Flu Shot Challenge. Students are encouraged to get their free flu shot and participate in the third annual flu shot challenge. Flu vaccinations can be received Monday through Friday 8am-4pm, no appointment is necessary. The third annual student #bearthebandaid competition for Residence Halls, Living Learning Communities, Fraternities, Sororities, and Individual Students will run until the end of January.
Engaging with student wellness is an easy and excellent way for students to be involved and to help them stay healthy while at Missouri State University.
