My name is Timothy Hicks, and I’m a Bear POWER student at MSU! My favorite things about college are going to MSU basketball and hockey games; going bowling; going to the movies; hanging out with my friends; going to the rec center; playing intramural basketball with Bear POWER.
Some things that have surprised me about college are that you have to do a lot of homework and studying every night, some of the assignments you have to do on a desktop/laptop, you have to have a lot of textbooks, you need a planner for every class, and that there is no make up work in college.
I chose to come to MSU and the Bear POWER Program because I wanted to get college experience, learn independent living skills, make a lot of new friends, and to learn more about myself and interests. I choose to major in Hospitality because I like to travel and learn about the Industries of Travel & Tourism! And because the Bear POWER Program is a really fun program at MSU!
To me, Bear POWER is a 5-semester college program at MSU that helps students with disabilities succeed and get through college.
So far, my experience at MSU has been good! I think this is a really good university in the state of Missouri and the world! I’ve been going to mass every Sunday at the CCM because I’m catholic. I’ve gone to some basketball and hockey games already here at MSU and they’re fun times. I’ve been to the Alamo Drafthouse movie theater and they bring food and drinks to you, like being at a restaurant. I’ve been to the PSU a few times, it’s a great place to hang out, eat, and even do homework. My classes are going pretty smooth right now. I’m still working on my new college schedule. I would recommend any post-secondary student with disabilities to join Bear POWER!
