The Plaster Student Union is an essential part of campus life at Missouri State. The mission of the facility is to “unite the campus” and it does so through a variety of ways. Whether you are looking to meet up with your friends to hang out, find a place to meet for your student organization, take a break in between classes, or dine at one of the many outstanding food vendors, the Plaster Student Union is the place to be and is accessible to all students, faculty, staff, family and community members.
The facility offers many meeting rooms to meet individual and large group needs. It is the primary meeting space on campus and holds all types of events from small individual/student organization meetings to large conferences, such as the Public Affairs Conference. It is even equipped with a theater, where students can watch a recent movie, for free, courtesy of the Student Activities Council.
The Office of Student Engagement is housed within the Plaster Student Union and is a great place for students to go, when they are looking to get engaged on campus. With over 350 student organizations, the office staff can advise students on how to join one, or even start their own!
The Student Activities Council and Traditions Council are also a part of the Plaster Student Union and are fantastic student groups that provide programming and other events year round. Through attending the various events put on, students can engage socially with one another, learn more about the University’s Public Affairs mission and take part in the traditions that occur throughout the year and make students truly feel like a Bear.
The Food Court in the Plaster Student Union offers a wide variety of dining options for students. The University’s food service partner, Chartwells, does an outstanding job at operating such popular brands as Chick-fl-A, Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, Panda Express, Subway, Starbucks and Einstein’s Brothers Bagels. Students who have a meal plan can opt to use their dining dollars at any of the Food Court vendors. Some of the vendors do take gift cards while others (Subway) do not. For more information, please visit the Dining Services website.
The Plaster Student Union is also a large employer for students looking to help pay their tuition, or earn some spending money to use around Springfield. Students are the backbone of the facility’s operations and can be seen working at the Information Desk, as Audio/Visual Technicians, Building Managers, Office Assistants and several other areas throughout the building. Interested students can inquire about open positions by accessing the Student Employment Office website.
The facility is also equipped with many offices to help meet the needs of students. Inside of the building are the Dean of Students Office, Office of Student Conduct, BearPass Card Office, Center for Community Engagement, Multicultural Resource Center, Event & Meeting Services, Student Government Association, Study Away, Family Programs, Orientation & Transition Programs, Commerce Bank and more. It even has a Convenience Store (Bear Necessities), in case students need something, but can’t get off campus right away.
