Thursday Topic – What is the process if a student gets COVID-19?

It depends on whether they are a student living on-campus student or a student living off-campus. Assuming they are living on-campus and they have gone to Magers Health and Wellness because they have had symptoms and are tested, Magers Health and Wellness will let them know they need to isolate and will determine whether they plan to isolate on campus or at home.

If they are want to remain on campus, Residence Life will be notified to coordinate moving them to Kentwood Hall. At Kentwood, they will be served food in their room and receive daily wellness calls. Residence Life will sanitize the room while they are in Kentwood. Once they have recovered, Residence Life will coordinate them moving back to their regular room.

At the same time, the Health Department is automatically notified of all positive cases. When they are, they will conduct an initial interview with the person testing positive. They will provide them guidance on isolation and will work with them to identify who they have had closes contacts with since becoming infectious. The health department will then reach out to the close contacts and let them know they need to quarantine.

Lastly, the health department will let the students know when they are released from isolation and quarantine. We are in the process of staffing up our own contact tracers because the County is not able to get with everyone as quickly as we would like.
