Are you interested in making a BIG impact on new MSU students’ experiences? You can!
Assist with SOAR leader selection
SOAR leaders play a critical role in the University’s retention efforts. These leaders represent the student body and the institution as they help welcome and transition new students and families to Missouri State during orientation.
By serving as an evaluator during SOAR Carousel (our annual interview process), you can influence the experience hundreds of new students will have.
How can you help?
Faculty and staff members will be partnered with SOAR leaders to evaluate applicants in one of four activities:
- Answering questions from mock students and family members
- Working as a team to create a commercial for Missouri State
- Working as a team to award a limited number of scholarships from a pool of applicants
- Speaking publicly based upon a randomly-assigned prompt
Using provided rubrics, evaluators will observe and score applicants on their performances in these tasks. Your observations and comments will be invaluable in determining which applicants should be personally interviewed by Orientation & Transition Programs staff.
What’s the commitment?
Evaluators are asked to attend a short meeting to brief them on the SOAR Carousel process, evaluation procedures, and mitigating interview biases. This meeting is scheduled for Friday, November 5 from 3:00 to 4:00 PM in PSU 313. (If you are unavailable at this time, please email me for a separate meeting.)
Interviewers should volunteer for at least one of two SOAR Carousel sessions offered at the following times/locations (you can sign up for both!):
- Saturday, November 6 from 8 AM – Noon on Plaster Student Union’s 3rd Floor
- Saturday, November 6 from 1 PM – 5 PM in Plaster Student Union’s 3rd Floor
Ready to volunteer?
Schedule yourself for the morning, afternoon, or both SOAR Carousel sessions on our SIGN-UP PAGE.
