Notes from Housing and Residence Life – What You Need to Know in September

September 8, 2022 by Priscilla Childress

Check out the September notes from Housing and Residence Life!

Future Bears

Our Housing Application for 2023-24 will open November 1 at 2 PM. Before that time, your student can pay their confirmation fee and send in their meningitis vaccination information to Magers Health & Wellness Center. This will set them up to be ready when the housing application opens.

Current Bears

Get Involved in Residence Life! We have numerous ways for your student to be engaged with leadership opportunities in their residence halls. Residents can join Hall Council, The Residence Hall Association, or participate in Homecoming with their building.

Fall Break is October 13 and 14 and even though there are no classes, the University is open.

Thanksgiving and Winter Break

Blair-Shannon, Freddy, Wells, and Woods House will close on November 19 at 10 am and will reopen November 27 at 8 am for Thanksgiving Break. These buildings will close again December 17 at 10 am and will reopen January 21 at 8 am. All mail for closed buildings during this time is stopped, and students will need to send packages elsewhere during this time.

Students who need housing can contact the Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services Office 417-836-5536 or online if they need assistance finding break housing. We offer very limited spaces on campus for students at a minimal cost and we also work with a nearby hotel for a discounted rate.

Have your student contact us so we can talk about options if they need housing during that time. Break housing information and the request form can be found online.

All other residence halls and apartments (Hammons, Heitz, Hutchens, Scholars, Monroe, and Sunvilla) will remain open.

The 2023-2024 Housing Application for returning students will open October 18 at 2 PM. Our apartments are highly competitive and need to be applied for as soon as the application opens.

ResNet is the main technology support resource for staff and students within Residence Life. Our office is located in the basement of Hutchens House. For students living in one of our residence halls, we offer free services that include but not limited to:

    • General troubleshooting for hardware and software
    • Device diagnostics and repair
    • TV Streaming Services
    • Other home devices setup
    • Residence Halls computer labs support and service
    • And much more…
