“Turning Off” Cancer

Cancer is a dreadful disease.  In our dietetics and CMB classes, we discuss the physiology of cancer.  Dietetics students learn the role nutrition can play in cancer prevention.  CMB students discuss the initiation, cellular and genetic events which lead to cancer. Scientists worldwide are constantly working, studying the causes and how to stop cancer growth.  This week, promising research from the Mayo Clinic has been revealed.  Scientists at Mayo have found a way to potentially reprogram cancer cells back into normal cells.  This discovery uncovers a new strategy for cancer therapy, which is great news, considering it affects so many.  To learn more about the Mayo’s discovery, check out this article:
