Chocolate Mousse with a Twist

May 10, 2016 by Natalie Allen

The semester is drawing to an end and the BMS 430 Sports Nutrition class voted for their favorite recipe from our “Training Table Potluck.”  The winner was Melanie Morgan, dietetics major from Springfield.  Melanie recipe was chocolate mousse with a high protein, low fat “secret” ingredient.  After much speculation and many guesses, she revealed the mousse had pureed cottage cheese in it!  The cottage cheese adds protein and calcium and when paired with the chocolate chips, it makes for a sweet treat.  The mousse is a great option for anyone, especially an athlete, to satisfy a sweet craving, while also getting good nutrition.  Try it  and see if your friends guess the “secret” ingredient.  Thanks Melanie for making a fun treat for our class!

Chocolate Mousse

The chocolate mousse is a great choice for a strength or power athlete. The mousse is soft, creamy, and high in protein! Top with whipped cream to add calories.

Ingredients:

2 cups cottage cheese

1 scoop of whey protein

1 cup of water

10 oz. milk chocolate chips

Directions:

Pour two cups of cottage cheese into a blender. Blend until smooth and creamy with no lumps. In a small saucepan, combine chocolate chips and water. Place the saucepan on the stove and heat at medium heat until melted. Slowly combine the chocolate mixture into the blender with the cottage cheese. Add the scoop of whey protein to the blender and blend until completely combined. Pour into a bowl and place in the refrigerator to cool and thicken for one hour.
