The eJournal of Public Affairs (EJOPA), a scholarly publication tied closely to Missouri State’s official mission, is currently undergoing a transfer to its new home within Citizenship & Service-Learning. CASL’s director, Dr. Kathy Nordyke, and yours truly, Charles Whitaker, were previously involved in contributing and editing roles, respectively. We’re thrilled to be spearheading the re-launch.
The re-launch will also include a partnership with AASCU’s American Democracy Project, led by director, Cathy Copeland.
Plans are in place to begin the development of a brand-new themed issue, editorials, and multimedia content.
Other extremely excellent people who were formerly EJOPA leaders are helping us out as well, like Dr. Rachelle Darabi, and former editor-in-chief, Andrew Lokie. We’re very thankful to for their guidance amidst retirement. Stay tuned for more stories and spotlights as our momentum picks up.
Keep a lookout in this space for updates on the transfer progress, as well as information on how to be involved, new issue themes, call for submissions, events, and more. Or head right to the source where news and content updates are coming soon: ejournalofpublicaffairs.org.
Background
EJOPA was on hiatus for a couple of years due to staffing changes, pandemic pandemonium, and the goal to create a fresh new look and feel. Now, here at CASL, we’re thrilled that EJOPA is part of our growing family of programs. Service-learning is all about building better communities through active citizenship combined with relevant, timely research on civic engagement topics. It gives academics, students, and community partners around the world opportunities to publish and connect.
Fun fact: Missouri State published a print-only journal on public affairs topics dating back into the 1990s – generally focused on publishing campus faculty’s research. But in 2011, a combination of personnel from Missouri State and the American Democracy Project formed an editorial board that wanted to bring the journal into a modern, digital environment – and also expand its scope to be national and global. We’re excited for the chance to be part of that legacy and carry it forth into the future.
