City of Springfield supervisors attend a CDR training session.

By Dr. Charlene Berquist, Director, and Heather Blades, Associate Director

This spring the CDR offered an exciting series of training sessions exclusively for supervisors working with the City of Springfield.

These trainings provided focused communication and conflict management skill development customized to meet the needs of the leadership in Springfield’s many diverse departments, which included staff from the Police Department, Workforce Development, Public Works, Parks and Recreation, the Fire Department, Environmental Services, 911 Emergency Communications, the Health Department, Information Systems, and others.

Sessions offered ranged from a half-day to a full day and included the following:

  • Get Your Employees to Do What You Want: Everyday Negotiation Skills for Supervisors
  • The ABC’s of Managing Employee Conflict: Always Be Coaching
  • Communication and Conflict Management Skills for Supervisors
  • Feedback for Improvement: Providing Effective Feedback and Performance Appraisals

The CDR also provided shorter “lunch and learn” presentations on topics including listening, perception, and managing difficult personalities.

The CDR regularly offers customized training and workshops as a part of its educational mission, and these contracted sessions help support the CDR’s many community outreach efforts.
