Dr. Matthew Siebert, associate professor of chemistry, recently returned from Berkeley, California. He participated in a prestigious program at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).

About the project

Siebert is a part of the 2019 Sustainable Horizons Institute’s (SHI) Sustainable Research Pathways (SRP) program.

The goal of SRP is to connect scientists from underrepresented groups to scientists at LBNL.

This way, scientists from all backgrounds can connect and collaborate on research.

Siebert’s research converting biofuel to gasoline was of interest to many at the conference.

“I have found a great potential collaborator and am pursuing U.S. Department of Energy funding to allow myself and two undergraduate students to travel to Berkeley during the summer 2020 term to work directly with this collaborator at LBNL,” Siebert said.

It was a competitive process to be considered for this program. Siebert had to fill out applications and write personal statements, as did his research students.
