Dr. Ken Brown, who is the head of the Department of Economics at Missouri State University, spends a good deal of time helping students see where economics can make a difference in our lives. He stops by Stem Spots to chat about the origins of the “dismal science” phrase and some of the ways that economics is a science, from modeling the world to the use of data. He also talks about the field of experimental economics, where simple “games” can be used to gain insight into the way decisions are made by typical people who, of course, make up the system that he and his colleagues wish to understand.
