Sigma Mu Sigma, the Missouri State University chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, the National Criminal Justice Honor Society, attended and fully participated at the Annual Conference in New Orleans, LA in mid-February 2018. Prior to arriving at the conference, chapter members worked diligently on submissions for competitions and prepared for on-site contests. Heather Lepper, graduate president, placed 2nd in the Criminal Justice Knowledge Test Competition (graduate level), and won a random scholarship drawing. Kirsten Spangenberg, undergraduate president, won the “Student Member Achievement Award,” and received a random scholarship drawing. Nick Stuart, undergraduate vice president placed 2nd in the Criminal Justice Knowledge Test Competition (undergraduate level), and was drawn for a random scholarship drawing. Matt McCloskey also was awarded through a random scholarship drawing. As a whole, the chapter won a “STAR Chapter Award” and won 1st place in the Chapter Theme competition with a focus on “Crime Prevention.”
Additionally, Mandi Muse, the Assistant Faculty Advisor, was recognized as the president of the Southwest Missouri Alumni Circle of Alpha Phi Sigma, which is the 2nd Alumni Circle in the Nation to be developed, and the 1st Alumni Circle with all 9 members being graduates of Missouri State University. She was given the charter for the Circle.
Ivy Yarckow-Brown, accepted her nomination and re-election to a second term of serving on the National Advisory Board for Alpha Phi Sigma, in New Orleans, as well. All in all, the Sigma Mu Sigma chapter was super successful at the 2018 Annual Alpha Phi Sigma Conference!
