Dr. Matthew Kuiper attended an academic workshop hosted by the International Institute of Islamic Thought near Washington DC in late April. The workshop brought together early career scholars in Islamic studies, along with several more seasoned faculty, to discuss challenges and best practices in teaching Islam at American universities. The workshop was well organized and professionally enriching. There was a good mix of scholars from several parts of the world, as well as scholars from both Muslin and non-Muslim backgrounds.
