Five Alpha Phi Sigma – Sigma Mu Sigma attended the 81st Annual Alpha Phi Sigma conference in National Harbor, MD Wednesday, March 15– Friday, March 17, 2023, along with Chapter Advisor, Ivy Yarckow-Brown, and Assistant Advisor, Jordan Riddell.
Three of our students ran for and were elected to Executive Student President, Executive Student Secretary, and Executive Student Treasurer for the International Criminal Justice Honor Society. These are two year terms.
Joshua Woolfington and Cassandra Engle were on the team that won 1st place in the Annual Alpha Phi Sigma Quiz Bowl.
Cassandra also received 1st place in the graduate paper writing competition and received the Regina B. Shearn award. This award is given to a student who holds a high GPA, is involved with many extracurricular activities related to the area of criminology and criminal justice and is invaluable to their chapter. Cassandra received 2nd place in the knowledge and understanding of criminology and criminal justice scholarship test.
Joshua Woolfington competed on the Crime Scene competition team. That team placed third. Joshua participated and received 1st place in the graduate level knowledge and understanding of criminology and criminal justice scholarship test. He also received the VA Leonard Award. Students honored with this award are those with stellar recommendations, high GPAs and notable leadership accomplishments.
