Problem:
Calls placed from an MSU Springfield campus telephone delivers a generic caller ID to the recipient of the phone call. The number will be 417-836-5999 or 417-836-5000, depending on the type of call placed. The person that receives the call often uses the caller ID on his or her phone to return phone calls to the University, which ultimately routes to the switchboard rather than to the person that placed the call. The switchboard operator tries to determine who originally placed the call and then routes the call accordingly. Sometimes the caller does not know who placed the call, which ends in frustration for the caller and for the University operator because the operator is unable to help the caller.
Suggested Solution:
When placing a call from an MSU Springfield campus phone be sure to provide the recipient of the call with the callers full 10 digit phone number. Anytime the caller requests a callback the caller’s complete phone number should be provided. This is true when leaving a recorded message and when speaking directly with the recipient, because the person receiving the call assumes the number on the display is the correct phone number.
