If you lose your smartphone, you may lose some extremely personal information along with it. Smartphones often contain emails, usernames, passwords, banking information, sometimes even social security numbers. What can you do to safeguard your data? The answer may be surprisingly simple.
Set a password on your phone: Protecting your phone with a passcode is absolutely essential. Use a 4-6 number passcode is a great precaution, but a combination of letters and numbers will provide even more security.
Encrypt your phone’s stored data: Encrypting your data means that, if your phone is lost or stolen, no one can access your data. Modern smartphones automatically encrypt data when a passcode is set.
Use “Find My Phone” software: Most mobile devices have a “Find My Phone” app pre-loaded. Activating this app will allow you to see the location of your phone if it’s lost or stolen. It will also allow you to remotely wipe your smartphone.
