GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT & CAREER PATH:
Michael greatest professional accomplishment is his current involvement in a project for L&W Industries. This project encompasses moving the design and production of rail signal and communications enclosures to Springfield, Missouri from a sister facility. HOW MSU EQUIPPED MICHAEL FOR HIS CAREER:
“Above all, I think the development of good problem solving skills during my MET education at Missouri State did the most to prepare me for my job. My education at MSU has proven relevant to my job as a product engineer. Standout examples include knowledge and experience gained in the areas of project management, engineering economics, production processes, and material properties. Hard skills like writing, math, and spreadsheets have been valuable.”
ADVICE FOR CURRENT STUDENTS AND RECENT GRADUATES:
“Take the time outside of class if necessary to develop good Computer Aided Design (CAD) skills. This will help you gain an advantage starting out. Also, make efforts to develop your soft skills in communication, both verbal and written. It’s not completely uncommon to be in direct contact with customers from time to time while working on projects. Finally, work hard to hone those problem-solving skills in your engineering classes. Even if you don’t use calculus or any of the formulas found in the classroom in your job, learning to think logically and methodically through a problem will always have value.“
