Dr. Alan Schick has been appointed head of the department of chemistry at Missouri State University. Schick will begin his term and duties July 1.
“Alan will bring new eyes and a new perspective to the chemistry department and to the college,” said Dr. Tammy Jahnke, dean of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences. “I look forward to the working with Alan as he guides and leads an outstanding group of faculty in the department.”
Schick earned his bachelor’s and doctorate degrees in physical chemistry from University of California-Riverside. His research interests are in materials science, with an emphasis on surface films and interfacial science. Dr. Schick will bring academic and administrative experience from Eastern Kentucky University where he has been a faculty member since 1995 and has been chair of the chemistry department since 2003.
“During the interview process I became acquainted with a committed and productive faculty. I am looking forward to working with them as they continue to expand the boundaries of chemical education and research,” said Schick. “What I’ve seen of the departmental students is encouraging, and I look forward to working with the sincere and enthusiastic majors.
