Karen Bolda, senior director of development at the Springfield Expedia office, spoke at Missouri State University.
After Ariane Gorin spoke, Bolda was interested in getting involved on campus as well.
Women in Technology (WiT) is a new club on campus within the College of Natural and Applied Sciences formed to further women in technology. Carmen Creswell, a creator of WiT and other WiT officers talked to Bolda about being a guest speaker. Bolda was eager to help.
Bolda spoke about her experiences in a male-dominated field. She focused on her journey to where she is now.
Creswell said the open question and answer session was incredibly insightful. It also gave voice to the audience, as Bolda asked for their suggestions to get women into technology.
Bolda also mentioned what kind of job opportunities that exist and tips to do well for that first post-graduation job.
“Computer science can sometimes be a rough place for women, and it meant a lot to me to see that it will get better and that there are women out there succeeding every day,” Creswell said.
