The computer science advisory board has three new members.
In addition to their expertise in the computer science world, they also know what it’s like to be a woman in a STEM field.
Melissa Crouch, Karen Bolda and Karla Williams are the newest members.
Bolda is Expedia’s senior director of development in Springfield, Missouri. She spoke at the Women in Technology meeting on campus earlier this year.
Williams is O’Reilly’s vice president of IT solution delivery in Springfield, Missouri.
About Crouch
Crouch, an applications development manager at Sprint in Kansas City, Missouri, hopes to bring perspective to the position.
Dr. Peter Sanderson, a former professor of Crouch’s at Missouri State, encouraged her to join the board.
“Dr. Sanderson and MSU have made such an impact on my life, I jumped at the chance to help,” Crouch said.
She hopes to help see the gaps and fill them in for new developers. She wants to teach a more agile mindset, where students can work well with peers and customers.
She also hopes to give her experiences as a minority in the STEM world.
“It was common for me to be the only female in my classes,” Crouch said. “I am very encouraged by the growth of women in computer science at MSU and how they are banding together to support each other.”
The advisory board serves to make sure the curriculum is in line with current workplace trends.
We’re excited to have all of you on the board!
