More than 40 teams registered for the Region VII Missouri Science Olympiad on Feb. 23.
With more than 45 events and hundreds of students participating, Missouri State’s campus was in full swing.
“The Science Olympiad events focus on many aspects of science and can be classified into three different types of competition: science knowledge, science process skills and technology or application,” said Ben Dalton, lab supervisor.
Events ranged from chemistry, crime lab work and thermodynamics.
Missouri State faculty, staff and students and Ozarks Technical Community College faculty helped judge the event.
In addition to event leaders, more than 50 people volunteered to help. Most were Missouri State students.
“They all deserve a big thank you for generating interest and getting involved with Science Olympiad,” Dalton said.
A little problem
Prior to the awards ceremony, the power went out. Due to unsafe conditions, the awards ceremony was cancelled. Awards were mailed out.
Dalton, a couple grad students and Drs. Tammy Jahnke and Toby Dogwiler delivered some awards to local schools.
The Phelps Center wanted to recognize the winners. They hosted an awards ceremony at Central High School for the Central teams.
