Military veterans in hospitality

Dr. Liza Cobos studies how the hospitality industry perceives military veterans.

February 7, 2020 by Ashley Lenahan

Dr. Liza Cobos, assistant professor of hospitality leadership, attended the Fifth World Research Summit for Tourism and Hospitality Dec. 23 in Orlando, Florida.

Cobos presented her research on the hospitality industry’s perceptions of hiring military veterans.

Her research focuses on determining hospitality managers’ perceptions of military veterans based on the following factors:

  • The general characteristics they use to describe veterans
  • Their experiences working with veterans
  • The hiring initiatives of their company

Cobos appreciated having the opportunity to attend the research presentations of others in her field and meeting scholars from all over the world.

“The conference is important because it allows us to share ideas and to understand how we, as a field, are moving forward,” Cobos said.

Dr. Kageyama, assistant professor of hospitality leadership, also attended the conference.
