Missouri State University’s department of hospitality leadership offers an impressive online program.

Learn.org recently recognized the program’s elite status. The site gave the Springfield-based program a 2nd place ranking on their list of best online bachelor’s in hospitality management degrees.

Dr. Stephanie Hein, department head of hospitality leadership, shares the significance of this award.

Bringing awareness to program offerings

Prospective students frequently start their college selection process with a basic internet search.

Placing on Learn.org’s ranking list can increase the visibility of Missouri State’s program during this search process, Hein shares.

“Rankings provide an external perspective on the quality of a program,” Hein said. “We believe we provide excellent online learning opportunities for our students. It’s rewarding to have this perspective validated.”

Continuing efforts to engage diverse students

The department of hospitality leadership has engaged students online for over a decade.

Adapting as needed to engage students both online and on-campus has allowed the program to thrive during that time.

“Our faculty continually look for new ways to engage online students through new teaching strategies,” Hein said. “This ensures our classes are always relevant and our content is never stale.”

The program also offers academic advising and related resources to online students.

These tools provide great value to meeting students’ unique education needs, Hein shares.

“Providing a personalized education experience is a priority in our program,” Hein said. “We constantly work to make our online students feel like they are part of the hospitality community.”

About the award
