Student employees make our campus go round.
This year’s Student Employee of the Year is Nhi N. Le.
Empowering diversity in the classroom and beyond
One reason Kim nominated Le for the award is her exemplification of cultural competence, one of Missouri State’s public affairs pillars.
“As a student coming from Vietnam, Nhi has contributed to my lab being a diverse workplace for innovation, creativity, competitiveness, and problem-solving,” Kim said. “She works together with others, regardless of their cultural backgrounds.”
A natural born leader
As a student researcher, Le is currently working on a research project that studies quantum dot, which are nano-sized semiconductor crystals that are highly used for research and medical purposes, and their toxicity towards yeast cells. But in the lab, she does more than an average student.
“Nhi is favored by all undergraduate students in the lab,” Kim said. “She is always ready to help them, even during the weekend and holidays. She never gets tired of teaching.”
Le is also involved with American Society for Cell Biology, Phi Kappa Phi, and Beta Beta Beta Biological Honors Society.
Following her graduation this spring, Le plans to pursue a master’s degree in her field. She says this award gives her even more confidence for her future.
“The competition was tough. I am very thankful and honored to receive this award.,” Le said. “I view this as both an honor and motivation for me to work even harder.”
