The MSU Flute Society and the MSU Music Department along with Springfield Music and Hoover Music Store invite you to the thirteenth annual MSU Flute Day, Saturday, May 3, on the campus of Missouri State University. This event is free and open to the public. Join us in Ellis Recital Hall beginning at 10 a.m.

Mark SparksGuest artist Mark Sparks, performs an unforgettable recital of flute music including the Franck Sonata in D, his own transcription of Bruch’s Romanze and other standards of the flute repertoire. Accompanied by MSU’s own Hye-Jung Hong and Wei-Han Su, this performance will be both entertaining and impressive!

An open flute choir reading session will begin the day. All flutists are invited to participate! We will be sight-reading lots of fun flute choir pieces and some will even get to experience playing the “big” alto and bass flutes. If you are interested in having access to the parts before flute day, please contact Dr. Jill Heyboer by phone or email and we will get them to you!

Following the reading session is a Flute Ensembles Recital, featuring the MSU Community Flute Choir, the MSU Flute Quartet, and other exciting chamber music groups.

To finish off the day, Mark Sparks teaches MSU flute students in a flute masterclass. Listen and learn from this artist as he explains and demonstrates what you can do to be a better flute player.

Since we are not including any time for lunch this year, there will be bake sale items for sale in the lobby to munch on between events, as well as pizza slices and soft drinks.

All day long Haynes Flutes will have flutes available to try and purchase.
