Missouri State’s award-winning troupe Opera Theatre will perform a double bill of operas this weekend at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church.

Operas to be performed

opera-theatre-puccini-trinkley-featureThe group will perform the short operas, “Saint Thomas the Carpenter” and “Suor Angelica” in performances on April 8 and April 10.

Saint Thomas the Carpenter

Bruce Trinkley’s opera “Saint Thomas the Carpenter” will make its stage debut at this event. The production picks up the story of Doubting Thomas at the time of his call to evangelize India.

Suor Angelica

“Suor Angelica” is a classic one-act opera by Puccini. Brianna Gilliam, an MSU graduate student, will play the title role of Sister Angelica, a Florentine noblewoman whose family has forced her to take the veil.

More about the event

Opera Theatre is led by Dr. Ann Marie Wilcox-Daehn. The MSU Chamber Orchestra, led by Dr. Amy Muchnick, and a chorus from Reed Academy, under the direction of Daniel Gutierrez, will lend orchestral and choral support.

A special pre-performance lecture by Dr. Pauline Nugent will begin one hour before each performance.

April 8

7:30-9:30 p.m.
First and Calvary Presbyterian Church

April 10

2:30-4:30 p.m.
First and Calvary Presbyterian Church

Running time: Each show is approximately 45 minutes.  There will be a brief intermission between the two shows.

Tickets can be purchased online. General admission to the event is $20. Student tickets are $5.

Half price for general admission and free student admission with donation of goods to the charitable outreach of First and Calvary.
