Southwest Missouri Regional Spelling Bee champion Kassie McKnight, of Bolivar Middle School, will head to Washington, D.C., May 27-28 to compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Missouri State hosts about 50 regional students
On March 21, McKnight won the fourth annual event held at Missouri State after an intense 50-round, head-to-head matchup with Central High School’s Kylie Mostyn. The final word was “exacerbate.”
Nearly 50 K-8th grade students from elementary and middle schools came to campus to compete.
Scripps National bee brings spellers from around world
At the national competition, McKnight will face off against 283 spellers from across the world.
