As many of you know, the go-to source for news and information in the Springfield community is the News-Leader. As a part of the community, we are very happy to be partnering with the News-Leader in a new endeavor. Last month, the College of Business started providing insight on business issues community members are most concerned about through a weekly column in the Sunday Business section titled “Bears Business Brief.” We plan to share one of those articles with you in our Bear Biz newsletter and this blog each month.
It’s our pleasure to introduce the 10 distinguished and highly experienced professors who will join Dr. Stephanie Bryant, Dean of the College of Business, in contributing to this weekly column.
Elizabeth Rozell, Ph.D., is a professor of management and associate dean of the College of Business as well as director of the MBA program. Rozell also holds the Kenneth E. Meyer Professorship in the College of Business. Her area of specialty is organizational behavior, leadership, and emotional intelligence.
Rayanna Anderson, MBA, is the director of the Small Business Technology Development Center and the Management Development Institute at Missouri State’s E-Factory. She has consulted with more than 1,600 businesses and has received the National Consulting Award from the National Association of Small Business Development Centers. Anderson will contribute articles that speak to issues she sees regularly in her consulting with small businesses in Springfield and the state of Missouri.
Stan Adamson, Ph.D., is an associate professor in finance and general business and has held the Baker Chair of Insurance in the College of Business since 2008. Adamson specializes in risk management, employee benefits, property and liability insurance, and will contribute articles on these issues, as well issues of broad interest to the insurance industry.
Ron Clark, Ph.D., associate professor of marketing, specializes in issues related to marketing and advertising. He teaches classes in consumer behavior, services marketing, advertising and promotion, personal selling, and sales management.
Jeff Jones, Ph.D., assistant professor of finance, holds several professional certifications, including Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and Certified in Financial Management (CFM). His articles will speak to both the individual investor, as well as corporate issues of finance.
Shannon McMurtrey, Ph.D., is director of our master’s program in cybersecurity, as well as program director for the master’s in computer information systems in the department of computer information systems. His articles will focus on how businesses and individuals can protect themselves from hackers, and other security and control issues related to information systems.
Mike Merrigan, J.D., MBA, is a clinical professor in management. Merrigan was formerly vice president and regional general counsel for St. John’s Health System and Mercy Health. He is a member of the Springfield Bar Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, and the Missouri Lawyers Association with MHA. Merrigan will contribute articles related to health care, including the Affordable Care Act.
James Philpot, Ph.D., is an associate professor in finance and general business, and specializes in financial planning. Philpot teaches courses in professional financial planning, personal financial planning, investments, insurance, and estate planning. He will contribute articles related to financial planning and investments for individuals.
Amy Stokes, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of marketing and has experience as a media coordinator in private industry, where she made recommendations on print and online media to clients and coordinated materials trafficking between clients. Stokes has a specialty in advertising and media issues and will contribute articles in those areas as well as in general consumer behavior.
Kerri Tassin, J.D., CPA, is director of the master of accountancy program in the School of Accountancy. Tassin also is the director of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and the director of the Low Income Tax Clinic at Missouri State. Tassin will contribute articles on tax issues related to both individuals and companies in the Springfield area.
