Students earn Information Technology Service Management Certifications

March 19, 2014 by Melissa Price

This semester, several Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) majors and MBA students have earned Exin ITSM and Exin Lean IT certifications.  Both certifications are exam based and allow students to demonstrate what they know via a third-party assessment.

Informal Certification Name:  Exin ITSM

Formal Certification Name:  IT Service Management Foundation based on ISO/IEC 20000

This is one of the most popular ITSM certifications and can be earned by IT professionals and students.  This certification indicates that the recipient understands the essential concepts of delivering high quality IT services to customers.

“Rather than just saying our students have this knowledge from taking a course at MSU, this knowledge is confirmed through professional certification.  The number of students who have earned ITSM professional certification (Exin ITSM or ITIL) over the years is a strong indication of the quality of students taking ITSM courses at MSU,” states Dr. Ron Dattero, professor in the department of Computer Information Systems.

Students who earned this certification:

  • Ali Alharbi
  • Kathleen Erickson
  • Christa Estes
  • Matthew Martinez
  • Stefan McWilliams
  • Weisyu Qin
  • Brian Thompson

Informal Certification Name:  Exin Lean IT

Formal Certification Name:  EXIN Lean IT Foundation

This certification confirms that the IT professional or student understands essential Lean concepts and how they can be applied to IT.  Similar to EXIN ITSM above, a professional certification is a more universal standard of measure of concepts and skills as opposed to course work.

Lean concepts have been proven to be highly effective in production/manufacturing settings (the Toyota Production System is the basis of Lean manufacturing).  Many of these Lean concepts, such as customer focus and reducing waste, are very applicable to IT organizations or groups.

Students who earned this certification:

  • Amy Battles
  • Cody Greninger
  • Jacob Hinck
  • Michael Hughes
  • Erickson Jacob
  • Andrew Muller
  • Derek Rehagen
  • Andrew Russell
  • Danielle Stewart
  • Brian White
  • Christopher Wilder

Congratulations to all of the students who earned the above certifications this semester!
