MSU Construction Club receives AGC’s Emerging Student Chapter Award

In early May, the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) announced the most outstanding student construction chapters of 2019.

Missouri State’s AGC Construction Club won the Emerging Student Chapter Award for exceptional program building and phenomenal partnership with its local professional AGC chapter.

The chapter was evaluated on qualifying criteria in each of three categories for exemplary demonstration of the AGC of America tenants of skill, responsibility and integrity.

Recipients were selected by a panel of judges made up of practicing commercial contractors.

The chapter received $2000 with a $1000 travel stipend to attend AGC’s Annual Convention held in early March.

The convention took place in Las Vegas and showcased experts from across the industry to share their knowledge.

“The Construction Club at Missouri State University has a strong record of engagement on campus and with a host of local partner organizations,” said Dr. Richard Gebken, associate professor of technology and construction management.  “Receiving this national award from AGC is not only an honor for the club, but more importantly, it is an indication of our students’ commitment to both enhancing their educational experience and impacting their community through extracurricular activities.”

The chapter’s history

In 2018, MSU joined the Builders’ Association/AGC Kansas City chapter as a member-firm. This opened new doors for the MSU chapter.

Since then, the MSU chapter has participated in at least 40 different events during the year including social, educational and community service events.

They also took home two of the five first place plaques in the Associated Schools Construction regional competition in 2019.

About the Construction Club

The AGC Construction Club at Missouri State provides construction management students with valuable resources and integral elements of the construction industry. The club has led community service projects for organizations such as the Downtown Exchange Club, Habitat for Humanity, Potter’s House, Harmony House Food Pantry Build and more.
