The Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), Theta Pi Chapter at Missouri State University has racked up a new achievement.
Under the guidance of Kyle Goodin, faculty advisor and accounting instructor, the chapter was one of only 10 BAP chapters to win an award in the recent 2024 KPMG Platinum Challenge Competition.
The prize was $3,000 per chapter.
Showing off multimedia skills
As part of the competition, chapters had to create a five-minute multimedia presentation showing how they were leveraging innovation and business skills in a unique way to impact their communities.
Participants were encouraged to address KPMG partners and professionals, emphasizing how their chapter’s efforts in accounting, finance and information systems have made a difference.
The challenge also tasked chapter members with highlighting both quantitative and qualitative outcomes, such as the number of people assisted, or skills learned.
“I’m beyond proud of what the students in the Theta Pi Chapter have accomplished,” Goodin said. “This award stands out as it recognizes the students’ dedication and hard work, elevating MSU as a national and global leader at Beta Alpha Psi conferences.”
When Goodin took over as faculty advisor in fall 2021, the chapter had only eight members. However, by spring 2024, that number had grown to 30. During this period, the chapter achieved significant milestones, including a third-place finish at a regional Best Practices competition in 2023, followed by two first-place victories in 2024, surpassing much larger chapters. They also had the opportunity to compete at the national BAP conference this summer.
“The Theta Pi Chapter competed against R1 institutions with far greater resources and membership numbers to reach this monumental accomplishment,” said Dr. Kimberly Church, School of Accountancy director. “It’s a testament to the volunteer hours and efforts our small but mighty chapter put into competing at a national level.”
