Choose a task force chair who agrees to facilitate the process of reviewing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to COE efforts to support appropriate faculty workloads, stipends, special projects, mentorship, and support for grant writing. Examine all types of faculty assignments and prioritize the list in terms of those that contribute most to departmental, college, and university missions. Include suggestions for consideration by the COE Leadership Council and Budget Committee. Provide a written report of 1,000 words or fewer by October 15, 2012. Present findings to the COE during its fall 2012 or winter 2013 meeting.
Questions Guiding Inquiry:
- What faculty teaching, research, and service activities have been given stipends / reassigned time by COE over the past 3 years?
- Have stipends / reassigned time been provided to faculty across COE departments on a fair and equitable basis over the past 3 years? Why or why not?
- Which faculty assignments are most critical to the mission of the departmental, college and university?
- Other than stipends and reassigned time, what types of faculty supports for extra work might be considered?
- What recommendations should be considered by the COE Leadership Council and Budget Committee?
