New Business:
Bill discussed an email he received from John Heywood. The Faculty Senate Rules Committee was charged to consider whether it would be appropriate for College Councils to review proposals affecting graduate courses and graduate programs that are housed within their college. Currently, graduate proposals go straight to Graduate Council without any opportunity for review at the college level.
After discussion, the members decided:
Graduate Council has representatives from every department, so review by College Council will be redundant. It is our belief if College Council reviewed graduate level curriculum proposals it could lengthen the whole process by one or more months. Currently College Council membership does not require graduate faculty status, thus there is no guarantee that individuals will be qualified to review proposals.
Bill distributed the information on Spring 2017 Elections Required by College Council for the 2017/2018 Academic Year. The schedule will be followed.
The next meeting is January 17, 2017, 3:00 p.m., Hill Hall 314. The meeting was adjourned at 3:44 p.m.
