- August 18, 2017 College Meeting FAC Activity – Debra Price, Robin Koerber, Annice McLean
Deb, Robin and Annice put together a “Breakout” activity for FAC members to complete in order to understand what to expect at the August College Meeting. FAC will have 45 minutes for the activity and follow-up. Faculty and staff will be seated eight to a table. Everyone can sit where they want for breakfast, but will be assigned seating prior to the activity. Color stickers will be under the seat of the chairs to indicate which table they go to for the activity. The dean’s budget will pay for eight breakout kits so one can be on each table. Clues for each table will be color-coded. Once unlocked, the Breakout box will have a fact about the college in it. At the conclusion, a faculty member, along with a new faculty member from each table will go to the front of the room to discuss their fact and introduce the new faculty member. The fact may be puzzle shaped to form a MSU/COE puzzle. A PowerPoint will also be presented at the end to explain how this activity could be done in a classroom and websites to go to for more formation. Dean Hough will email Deb, Robin and Annice the COE facts, a list of new faculty and current list of faculty/staff. FAC will have a meeting prior to August 19th to go over final details. Eventually, the kits will be divided among the departments for faculty to use in their classes.
- Mentor Leadership Seminars
The dean is going to have monthly Mentor Leadership Seminars from August to December, 2017. Members will be department heads, P/T committee chairs and mentors. The purpose is to have conversations pertaining to P&T guidelines, processes, time lines, roles, and responsibilities. LC Members discussed what they would like to see included in the seminars as follows: clarification regarding what should be included in binders, a template for the table of contents, what counts as service, should service be related to your work, role of mentor, scales used, who should be a mentor, how many mentors, how to evaluate teaching, the entire process, and dates on the academic calendar. The seminars will be from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Email the dean if you think of anything else you would like included in the seminars.
FAC meetings will be scheduled for August – May next year. Sharon will first look at PCOB, then Glen Isle, Greenwood, on campus, and off campus if there is nothing available.
