FCTL Diversity Scholar Stipend – Deadline Today, September 5th
Faculty who are interested in learning about diversity and creating an inclusive classroom culture are encouraged to apply for a $250 Diversity Scholar stipend. A limited number of stipends will be available. Past participants in this program earned a Diversity Scholars certificate serving as a mentor on diversity and inclusion to other faculty in their department.
Interested applicants should submit a one-page application to the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning by the end of the day, September 5. This should be a one-page letter outlining your primary goals for integrating multicultural and diverse perspectives in your teaching.
Successful applicants are expected to participate in the four Diversity Workshops facilitated by the Diversity Fellow, Adena Young-Jones. They will also be asked to write a reflective essay on how they incorporated this new knowledge into their practice sharing practical teaching tips with other faculty for creating an inclusive learning environment.

Assessment of Student Learning Grants
Assessment Grants support faculty in their efforts to assess student learning in public affairs and general education. These awards of $500 can go a long way towards implementing assessment plans in a program and we want you to take advantage of them! We are excited to offer these grants each semester. Eligible projects include, but are not limited to: Compare student learning in face-to-face and online courses
- Develop, revise, or refine student learning outcomes in the major
- Support a meeting of dual course, per course, and full-time faculty in a department
- Support focus groups with students or alumni to ask questions related to program learning outcomes
- Focus groups with transfer and homegrown students on student learning in a program
- Incentivize faculty for the extra work involved in assessment
Proposal due dates: September 22, October 20, and December 15

Ozarks Teacher Corps – Community Foundation of the Ozarks Scholarship
TEACHING CANDIDATES EXPLORE RURAL EDUCATION
The Ozarks Teacher Corps develops a cadre of talented teaching candidates who will explore rural education issues, serve as teacher interns in small schools, and commit to teaching in a rural school district for at least three years. The overarching purpose of the Ozarks Teacher Corps is to encourage extremely capable and passionate young people to become educators and return to their rural hometowns as teacher-leaders.

MSU Transfer Student Orientation
Graduate assistant, Peyton Davis, pictured above, and Jessica Bendure, Academic Advising, represented COE at the University-wide transfer student orientation program in the PSU on Tuesday, August 29th. The number of students transferring from Community Colleges is increasing and makes up a larger percentage of our students.
Personnel Updates
Dr. Marci Dowdy has transferred from CLSE faculty to the Agency for Teaching, Leading and Learning as the Career Advisor/Career Pathway Regional Consultant. She will work with school districts, area career centers, military, and post-secondary institutions in southwest Missouri to ensure that K-12 students will have the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to make successful transitions to post-secondary options based on their educational and career goals. Missouri Career Pathways is a statewide collaborative initiative that supports the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Top 10 by 20 program goal that all Missouri K-12 students will graduate college and career ready. The primary goal of the Missouri Career Pathway Development Plan is to promote the development and implementation of successful career pathways that meet the needs of communities in nine Missouri geographical regions.
Dr. Emmett Sawyer will be serving as the interim department head for Reading, Foundations and Technology on a monthly basis until a full-time department head is hired.
