COE Tailgate at Bearfest Village Saturday, October 28, 2017. The cold weather kept some of the visitors away, but those that ventured out had a good time. Thanks to the three student organizations and CDC for providing games/activities.
Revised Student Teaching Application Submission and Approval Process
At the last Leadership Council meeting, Kim DuBree, along with James Sottile, introduced the new process for applying for student teaching, which will start February 2, 2018. It is more effective and efficient.
STUDENT TEACHING APPLICATION SUBMISSION AND APPROVAL
A student teaching application is submitted through My Missouri State ->Academics->Teacher Education->Practicum and Student Teaching Resources->Student Teaching Application.
Application for Fall student teaching is open from August 2 through February 1 of each year.
Application for Spring student teaching is open from February 2 through August 1 of each year.
- When the deadline for a given semester has passed, the Educational Field Experiences office will review the list of applicants and preliminary verify the number of applicants and subject areas, and verify that the application procedure appears to have worked properly.
- After that verification process, the Educational Field Experiences office will email the program coordinators of each program to inform them that the applications have been received and are ready for their review. This email will include instructions for the program coordinators to access their students’ applications for review.
- The program coordinators review their students’ applications, and then approve their applicants for student teaching at that time within the application. The approval is given subject to the students’ successful completion of all coursework and grades of the semester in progress.
- The program coordinator also has the option of not approving the students’ application and returning it to them for revision(s).
- If the student has requested an out-of-area placement, and the program coordinator approves the application, the student is also approved for the out-of-area placement, and no further form needs to be submitted.
- The Educational Field Experiences office will continue to meet with each program coordinator to discuss placement location and level of placement for each student.
- The Educational Field Experiences office will run a report that displays which applications have been approved and will then begin the process of securing a student teaching placement for the approved students based on conversation with the program coordinator.
- By logging back in to the application, the student will see a progress bar which shows when the application has been received, approval is in progress, the application has been approved, placement is in progress and finally that a placement has been confirmed.
